BRONCOS WIN AND SHARE THE SUPER BOWL ... FLAG TOURNAMENT - 26th January 2003
The Broncos took part in an event run by Scott Couper and the Scottish Claymores ... the
Super Bowl Flag 2003.
The Cadets and Juniors travelled by car to the Holyrood Sports Centre in Glasgow - near Hampden Park.
The Cadets won all four of their Group games ... to become Super Bowl Flag Champions 2003.
The Juniors won all three of their Group games but they also had to face the Winners of the Second Group. The Junior Final was tight and ended in a TIE thanks to the Broncos overcoming a 0-14 first-half deficit ... levelling with seconds on the clock ... to become joint Super Bowl Flag Champions 2003.
Well done to every member of both Squads.

BRONCOS MOST WANTED
With the injury to Mark at the weekend and players unable to make training or tournaments due to other acceptable commitments ... it highlights a need for the Broncos to recruit further enthusiastic individuals to cover for these temporary situations.
At the moment we seem to be a bit short of players in the Junior Squad and would love to encourage more boys and girls who were born in either 1988, 1989 or 1990 to come along and find out about Flag Football. Novices or experienced ... all will be made most welcome.
You will be playing alongside the Mid Squad of 2002 who are the current Claymores Bowl, UK Bowl and Channel Five Trophy Champions ... where better to learn about this NON-CONTACT version of American Football.
If you are interested then Inchyra Park, Grangemouth on Saturday mornings from 10am until 12:30pm is the place to be !

KELLY ROY AND THE BABES READY TO ASSIST BRONCOS IN 2003
Once this years fixtures are known the Falkirk Babes will be in a better position to know which games they will be able to come along and support The Broncos.

SOPHIE'S LIFE CELEBRATED - 10th January 2003
It is with initial sadness that I have to intimate to the Club that the five year old daughter of Mark Love passed away on Saturday the 4th January.
Mark of the Auld Toon Shop is one of our main sponsors.
A service to celebrate Sophie's life was held in the Kirk of the Holy Rood, Grangemouth on Friday @ 12:30pm.
To reflect Sophie's spirit, Mark and Caroline requested no black ties and ladies to wear an item of pink.

Two talented individuals have been training with the Seniors.
One has been keeping fit with us for a while ... the other has just arrived in the last couple of weeks.
It is hoped that the well nourished boys will be wearing orange in 2003.

ITS DOG EAT DOG IN THE AFL FOR DINGLE - 27th January 2003
The NY Dragons of the Arena Football League have made several cuts in trimming their Team Roster down to the AFL limit of 24.
This unfortunately included Claymore favourite Antonio Dingle.

SUPER BOWL XXXVII CHAMPIONS ... TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - 26th January 2003
On Sunday @ Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California the Buccaneers beat the Raiders 48-21.
Jon Gruden, 39, is now the youngest Head Coach to win the Super Bowl ... beating previous record holder ... John Madden, 40.
EA Sports it's in the name ... GRUDEN NFL 2004 ?
It was also the first time Jon Gruden had faced his former team ... Oakland a year after departing.
Super Bowl MVP went to Tampa Bay's Dexter Jackson.

2003 CLAYMORES HALL OF FAME RESULT - 26th January 2003
Claymore fans have voted AARON STECKER and MARCO RIVERA into their Hall of Fame.
The two successful inductees were announced at the Claymores Super Bowl Party in Glasgow and later posted on the Claymores Website.

WHAT'S ON SKY SPORTS EXTRA - 19th January 2003
Sunday saw Tampa Bay win the NFC Championship Game 27-10 against Philadelphia.
In the AFC Championship Game, Oakland won 41-24 against Tennessee.

FURY OVER SANFORD SIGNING - 18th January 2003
Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League have continued their off-season moves by adding Claymore Sulecio Sanford to their Training Camp Roster.
There is only one week left in camp before the final cuts are made on Saturday, 25th January.
Detroits first game in the AFL is at home to Indiana Firebirds on the 2nd February.
Detroit play in the National Eastern League along with Buffalo, Las Vegas and New York.

NY Giants Guard, Ian Allen will be Guest of Honour at the Annual Claymores Super Bowl Party, to be held at Walkabout in Renfield Street, Glasgow, on January 26 @ 9pm ( Super Bowl kick-off 11pm ).

MARIUCCI FIRED BY COLD 49ERS - 15th January 2003
San Francisco have released Coach Steve Mariucci from his contract.
Apparently this decision was not a performance issue ... rather a difference in philosophy within the 49ers' structure on how to best utilise their various talents in pursuing the goal of fielding a Championship team and winning a Super Bowl.

MILANOVICH TO RE-LIGHT FIRE IN 2003 - 15th January 2003
The Rhein Fire have announced that former Berlin Thunder QB Scott Milanovich will be joining the Coaching Staff of the 2002 World Bowl X finalists.

EASY TIGER ! - 14th January 2003
The Cincinnati Bengals have hired Marvin Lewis as their new Head Coach.
The Bengals hope that Lewis, the architect of one of the NFL's greatest defenses can resurrect its worst team. Lewis was Defensive Co-ordinator with the Baltimore Ravens that won the 2001 Super Bowl and set an NFL record for fewest points allowed in a season.
Lewis then moved on to become Defensive Co-ordinator of the Washington Redskins until now. The lure of an NFL Head Coach position was too great a challenge to refuse.
Washington have promoted Linebackers Coach, George Edwards to Defensive Co-ordinator and now becomes the fifth man to hold that position with the Redskins in as many years.

BRAD IS MONARCH OF THE BAY
The former London Monarchs QB Brad Johnson is heading into this weekend's NFC Championship game with Tampa Bay.
Brad Johnson hopes to erase the Buccaneers recent past performances and reach the final of Super Bowl XXXVII.

PIRATE SET TO MAKE HIS MARK AT SUPER BOWL EVENT - 13th January 2003
WR Mark Squire of the East Kilbride Pirates has clinched a dream trip to San Diego to represent Team Europe in the 7th NFL Global Junior Championships.
This is the most prestigious Youth American Football Tournament in the world and will be played as part of the celebrations in the run up to Super Bowl XXXVII.
Mark is part of a 36-man squad of players aged between 16-19 who will face national sides from the USA, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
Good Luck to the only Scot in the team !

SATURDAY NFL DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFFS PART I - 11th January 2003
On Sky Sports we first of all saw the Tennessee Titans win 34-31 in OT against the unfortunate Pittsburgh Steelers.
In the second game the spread wasn't as close ... with the Atlanta Falcons losing 6-20 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Priest Holmes of Kansas City Chiefs was recognised for his outstanding season ... the Associated Press announced he had won its NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.

NO LONG WINDING RHODES FOR DENVER - 11th January 2003
Defensive Co-ordinator Ray Rhodes resigned his position after two seasons with the Broncos.
In 2000 he was Defensive Co-ordinator with the Redskins and prior to that he was Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers for one year ... finishing 8-8, and four seasons as the Head Coach in Philadelphia, directing the Eagles to play- off appearances in 1995 and 1996.

HANDY ANDY SCOOPS AWARD - 11th January 2003
The Philadelphia Eagles' Coach, Andy Reid, earned The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award.
With the Eagles still in with a chance of Super Bowl success ... he must be quietly pleased with himself.

NO HORSING BY BRONCOS - 10th January 2003
Denver have signed Free Agent DT Russell Newman to a future contract.
He too will officially be added to the Broncos Roster upon conclusion of the 2002 NFL Season in February.

CARRY ON CAMPO-ING - 10th January 2003
Former Dallas Coach Dave Campo was hired as Cleveland's new Defensive Co-ordinator, reuniting him with Browns Coach Butch Davis.
Campo and Davis worked together for six years as Defensive Assistants on the Cowboys' staff, helping Dallas win two Super Bowls. The two also coached at the University at Miami.

DENVER BRONCOS WELCOME MORE TO THE RANCH - 8th January 2003
The Broncos have signed another two Free Agents to future contracts - RB Marlion Jackson and TE Arther Love.
They will officially be added to the Broncos Roster upon conclusion of the 2002 NFL season in February.

DALLAS SWOOP FOR HAWKES - 8th January 2003
The Cowboys have signed Claymores LB Michael Hawkes.
Hawkes had been with Carolina for two seasons before a short stint with the Rams this past season.

BRONCOS START TO FILL STABLE - 7th January 2003
The Broncos have signed six Free Agents to future contracts, including Former Hawaii QB Nick Rolovich ... who threw to Denver rookie WR Ashley Lelie at Hawaii.
Others - CB Corey Chamblin, DE Devon Finn, LB Louis Green, CB Jeff Harris and T Wayne Smith - all officially join the Broncos Roster when the 2002 NFL season ends in February.
None of them played in the NFL this past season.

RAMS START TO PICK AT GRASS-ROOTS FOR 2003 - 7th January 2003
St Louis have agreed terms with 12 Free Agents.
DT Mike Collins, LB Joe Cooper, TE Dauntae Finger, DE Randy Garner, T Robert Haws, T Gary Hobbs, CB Todd Howard, WR Desmond Kitchings, P David Leaverton, C Craig Page, WR Corey Parchman and LB Maurice Rodriguez all join the Rams Roster.

DENVER ROOKIE BESTOWED ASSOCIATED PRESS AWARD - 7th January 2003
Only four men in NFL history gained more yards in their Rookie Seasons than RB Clinton Portis, and only one has averaged more per carry.
Portis was rewarded by being named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year.

WILL CLAYMORES PUT THEIR WORLD BOWL HOPES IN SHANE'S HANDS ? - 7th January 2003
QB Shane Stafford has just been signed for the New England Patriots.
Shane Stafford competed with James Brown and Scott Dreisbach for the QB starter's spot at Claymores Training Camp in 2002 ... don't be surprised if you see him linked with the Claymores again in 2003.

NEW ENGLAND SIGN SCOTT - 7th January 2003
The Patriots kicked off what could be a busy offseason with the signing of seven minor Free Agents late Monday which included Claymore WR Scott McCready who finished the season on the Patriots PS.
McCready has to be considered a long shot in terms of earning a Roster spot next fall but you never know ... can we expect a return to the Claymores in 2003 ... watch this space !

NO FAVRE-WELL AT GREEN BAY - 6th January 2003
Brett Favre will return to the Green Bay Packers next season.
The Packers mature star QB had fueled speculation about his future when he did not speak to reporters after Green Bay's wildcard loss against Atlanta.
Brett later confirmed he has every intention of coming back next season.

PAT ON THE BACK AFTER KICKER GOES ALL-PRO - 6th January 2003
The recognition continued for Patriots Kicker Adam Vinatieri over the weekend as he was named to his first Associated Press All-Pro Team.
The honour comes in the same season as Vinatieri's first selection to the Pro Bowl and after being voted by the fans as the team's Shaw's 12th Player Award winner.
Vinatieri was one of 13 first-time choices to the All-Pro Team that included 15 players from the AFC and 11 from the NFC. He was the only Patriot named to the team and is the first since Safety Lawyer Milloy received the impressive honour in 1999.
2002 has been a most memorable year for Vinatieri ... which started nicely for him with his game-winning kick over the Rams as time ran out in last February's Super Bowl XXXVI.

Here's how the Broncos' schedule breaks down for 2003.
Dates and times will be announced by the NFL in the Spring.
HOME to Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit and New England.
AWAY to Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Minnesota and Indianapolis.
The Broncos play each Team from the AFC North and each Club from the NFC North. The games against New England and Indianapolis were determined by season-ending placement in their respective divisions - all were second-place teams.

BENGALS AND JAGUARS STARTING TO LOOK FOR NEW HEAD COACHES - 3rd January 2003
Ex-Jaguars Head Coach, Tom Coughlin, threw his hat into the ring for the Bengals Head Coaching job on Friday night.
He has great respect for Mike Brown and the family. The Bengals were also apparently very impressed with Coughlin's smooth presentation of his competence and experience, which plays well for a franchise trying to right itself quickly.
That comes three days after Redskins D-Co-ordinator, Marvin Lewis also impressed the Browns with his fresh views combined with the broad experiences of three different organisations.
Meanwhile ... Jacksonville have still not interviewed anyone as yet but plan to soon.

PASS THE PARCELLS - 2nd January 2003
Bill Parcells, the two-time Super Bowl winner was hired three days after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released Dave Campo, saying he wanted a 'proven Coach and a change in philosophy'.
The 61-year-old, coached 15 seasons for three teams - he took the NY Giants, New England Patriots and NY Jets from losing records to the Playoffs in two seasons.
He led the Giants to their only two Super Bowl victories, took the Patriots to the NFL Title Game and the Jets to the AFC Championship Game.
After leaving the Jets, Parcells said he never wanted to Coach again. Still, he signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year but changed his mind.
Parcells is the first Cowboys Coach with previous NFL Head Coach experience. He is 138-100-1 in regular-season games, 11-6 in the Playoffs, and only four Coaches have more postseason victories.

RICH NO GANNON FODDER - 1st January 2003
The Associated Press named Oakland Raiders QB Rich Gannon the NFL's MVP.
Gannon, 37, was ranked first in the NFL in passing, pass attempts and pass completions (an NFL record) in 2002.

YOU CAN'T HURLEY LOVE - 1st January 2003
Claymores CB Hurley Tarver has again been re-signed to the Green Bay PS, filling the opening created by the release of QB Greg Zolman.

A DINGLE TOOK MY BABY - 1st January 2003
New York Dragons of the Arena Football League (AFL) have signed Claymore Antonio Dingle as an OL/DL for the upcoming 2003 Season.
He will be joining another Claymore Kory Blackwell, who was signed by the Dragons as a defensive specialist about a month ago.

WHO HAS MADE THE PLAY-OFFS ?
The following NFL teams have made it to the next stage -
NY Jets - who clinched the AFC East title will host the Indianapolis Colts on Wild Card Weekend.
Pittsburgh Steelers - who clinched the AFC North title will host the Cleveland Browns on WildCard Weekend.
Tennessee Titans - who clinched the AFC South title get a first-round bye.
Oakland Raiders - who clinched the AFC West title get a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
Philadelphia Eagles - who clinched the NFC East title get a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
Green Bay Packers - who clinched the NFC North title will host the Atlanta Falcons on Wild Card Weekend.
