The Grangemouth Broncos played host last weekend to the
Inverness Rockets in their first meeting this
year. The Rockets and the Broncos are old rivals and over the last few
years both clubs have established
themselves as the top two in the SFFA Northern Conference.
This year is no difference and both clubs were keen to get the top
slot in all age bands.
The final game on the field was the Youths (U18).
The game would decide the honours on the day, and it proved to be an
excellent game in all respects.
The first-half saw both teams defenses dominate and at the half the
score was 13-12 with the majority of
the points being scored in the last 3 minutes of the half after a
tremendous defensive battle.
Half-time talks for both teams clearly focused on how to break through
the others team defense and the
second-half belonged to the offenses.
Both teams traded touchdowns for much of the half, but as the game
progressed the Broncos stamina started
to win through and they took a lead with back to back touchdowns.
The Rockets didn't have enough time left on the clock to recover and
the Broncos ran out the winners.
Steven Kane (Broncos) and James Pike (Rockets) were named the games
MVPs.
Broncos Head Coach Charlie Ewing said afterwards 'Great football from
both clubs throughout the day.
It is what the sport is all about. Inverness are a fine club and it
is always a pleasure to play them.
Good technical skills from both clubs made for some very entertaining
football and we need to prepare well
for the return match in Inverness in 2 weeks time'.
The results allow both the Cadets and the Youth Squads to maintain
their positons at the top of their
leagues whilst the Juniors are trailing Inverness at this stage of the
season.
Two wins out of two in the SFFA League and sitting pretty
at the top.
First games in the 'orange jersey' for Steven Dunn and
Phil Cooper ... also first TDs for both.
Steven Kane sacked their QB twice.
Three Interceptions for the Defense ...Alan Martin (2) and
Steven Dunn (1).
