The Grangemouth Broncos played host last weekend to the
Inverness Rockets in their first meeting
this year. The Rockets and the Broncos are old rivals and over the
last few years both clubs have established
themselves as the top two in the SFFA Northern Conference.
This year is no difference and both clubs were keen to get the top
slot in all age bands.
The Cadets (U13) were the first onto the field and got the day off to
a brilliant start.
Back-to-back touchdowns for the Broncos early in the half set the
tone and the Cadets settled into their
stride. The first-half saw 4 touchdowns for the Broncos and a
defensive shut-out of the visiting Rockets.
It was a contented Coach Ewing during the half-time talk and the
players took to the field in the
second-half confident that they had control of the game.
Changes in both offense and defense saw some of the newer players to
the squad take to the field to gain
experience. The Rockets also made changes to their tactics during the
break and the second-half was a far
more evenly matched game with both teams scoring 2 touchdowns each to
take the score to 42-14 at the
final whistle in the Broncos favour.
Callum Woods (Broncos) and Marc Prasher (Rockets) were named MVPs for
the game.
Broncos Head Coach Charlie Ewing said afterwards 'Great football from
both clubs throughout the day.
It is what the sport is all about. Inverness are a fine club and it
is always a pleasure to play them.
Good technical skills from both clubs made for some very entertaining
football and we need to prepare well
for the return match in Inverness in 2 weeks time'.
The results allow both the Cadets and the Youth Squads to maintain
their positons at the top of their
leagues whilst the Juniors are trailing Inverness at this stage of
the season.
Three wins out of three in the 2005 SFFA League Campaign
to leap frog Inverness back to the top.
Callum Woods scores another 3 TDs.
Three Interceptions for the Defense ... Daniel Ward (2) and
Murray Tannock (1).
Another good performance from the Broncos Defense and
QB Scott McKenzie.
