The Broncos WON an incredibly close fought match against the
Selhurst Snipers by 46 points to 40.
The game was held prior to the Claymores match against the Frankfurt
Galaxy. Claymores Scott Couper ensured the UK Bowl had all the glitz
and glamour that the game deserved. Both teams were individually introduced onto
the pitch through a tunnel of cheerleaders, and with running commentary
throughout the final by Ben Torriero (World Bowl 1996 winner) the game
had a real ‘big event’ feel about it.
The Broncos jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead by having a steady start
whilst the Snipers seems to take a little time to settle into their
game. This gave the Broncos a 24-12 lead at the half way point.
The game was far from over and the Snipers showed just why they are
the English National Champions by coming straight back at the Broncos
in the 2nd Half. They got the Broncos lead back to only 4 points, but
then the Broncos stretched it back out to 10, then it swung back to 4.
This was to be the pattern for the rest of the game and the Broncos
controlled the clock well towards the end taking their 4 point lead
to the final whistle. The Snipers had blitzed QB Scott Keir
relentlessly in the 2nd half but he maintained his cool and ensured
that he got his passes away crisply using all the players in the team
as receivers to keep the Snipers guessing. Ross Keir and David Ewing
both made yardage whenever they got the ball and when this yardage was
combined with TDs from Mark, Steven and five from Jonathan Ewing.
